This morning as I scurried around completing last minute details, I was keenly aware of the wild crazy butterflies in my belly. Fear and excitement have similar physiological effects on the body and sometimes it’s hard to know which we are feeling. Beyond the typical anxiousness of ensuring I’m on time for my coach or flight, I realized… I’m stoked!
The three weeks since booking this trip (yep, it wasn’t pre-planned; it was divine intervention) have been full and I haven’t felt like I’ve had time to relish the preamble. Today I’m feeling all the feels. Five decades in the waiting and it’s here!!
Check-in and security were a breeze. While in line at Security, I met a wonderful African family heading to Uganda for a month. Turns out, we’re on the same flight. I mentioned that some friends had recently returned from there to see silver-backed gorillas and the husband said he used to be a guide for those tours. He radiated joy with every word, seemingly grateful for each breath and ray of sunshine that came his way.
I’m at the gate, boarding soon, heading across the pond shortly. Vamos!
